The oldest race on the calendar and the one that started it all — Silverstone hosted the first World Championship Grand Prix in 1950. Four days, roughly half a million people across the weekend, and a circuit fast enough that the corners have names people actually know.

When do British Grand Prix 2027 tickets go on sale?

Tickets for 2027 are already on sale, through Silverstone's own site and the official Formula 1 ticket store. Grandstands at the popular corners sell out long before race week, and prices on the resale market move as the date gets closer. Set a free alert and we'll email you when a price drops below yours — no need to keep checking.

About the tournament

Silverstone was a wartime airfield before it was a race track, which is why it sits flat and open in the Northamptonshire countryside with runways still visible in the layout. It held the first race of the inaugural Formula One World Championship in May 1950, and it has hosted the British Grand Prix without interruption since 1987.

The circuit rewards commitment more than almost any other on the calendar. Copse is taken close to flat out. Maggotts and Becketts is a sequence of direction changes at speeds that look implausible from the grandstands, and drivers routinely describe it as the best corner complex in the world. Stowe and Club, at the far end, are the classic overtaking spots and where most of the racing you remember actually happens.

The crowd is part of the event here in a way it isn't everywhere. British fans turn out for British drivers, and a home win produces a track invasion at the end that has become part of the weekend's character.

The 2027 edition runs the Sprint format for a second consecutive year, which changes the shape of the weekend: Friday carries qualifying weight rather than being practice you can skip.

How tickets are sold

Tickets are sold directly by Silverstone and through the official Formula 1 ticket store, and the 2027 race is already on sale.

The categories. General Admission gets you onto the grass banks and roaming viewing areas — cheapest, and genuinely good at some corners if you arrive early enough to claim a spot. General Admission Plus adds facilities. Grandstands are reserved seats sold by corner. Enclosures sit between the two. Hospitality is a separate product and starts well above the rest.

Which grandstand. This is the decision that matters, and Silverstone sells seats by corner rather than by generic tier. Seats along the pit straight and around the start line give you the start, the pit stops and the podium, and they are priced accordingly. Stowe and Club, at the far end of the circuit, are where overtaking actually happens and are the ones experienced regulars tend to recommend. Seats overlooking the Maggotts and Becketts complex give you the most spectacular driving of the weekend but very little wheel-to-wheel action. There is no bad answer, but they are different weekends.

Single day or the whole thing. Friday is the cheapest day by a wide margin, and in a Sprint year it carries real competitive sessions rather than just practice. Sunday is the race and prices reflect it. Three-day and two-day passes exist and usually cost less than the equivalent single days bought separately.

Getting there

Silverstone is in rural Northamptonshire, roughly halfway between London and Birmingham, and it is not near a city — the nearest town of any size is Towcester. This is the single thing people underestimate.

There is no railway station at the circuit. The usual approach is a train to Milton Keynes Central, Northampton or Banbury and then a shuttle bus, which the circuit runs on event days. Driving is popular and the traffic is genuinely notorious: leaving after the race on Sunday can take hours, and locals will tell you the same.

Most people either camp on site, which is a large part of the weekend's culture, or stay in Milton Keynes, Northampton, Banbury or Oxford and travel in. Accommodation within an hour's drive books up months ahead and prices rise sharply for the race weekend, so this is worth sorting out at the same time as the ticket, not after.

Good to know

It is four days, not three. The 2027 event runs Thursday to Sunday, with the on-track sessions from Friday. The Thursday programme is a separate thing and not every ticket includes it.

Bring for rain and for sun. It is England in July on an exposed former airfield. Both happen, sometimes in the same afternoon, and there is very little natural shelter on the general admission banks.

Grandstand seats are numbered but the view varies within a stand. Silverstone publishes view-from-seat information; it is worth looking before choosing, because the difference between ends of the same grandstand can be significant.

Leaving takes longer than you think. Between the crowd size and the rural road network, plan for a long exit on Sunday, or stay for the post-race activity rather than sitting in a queue.

Dates follow the 2027 race calendar and can shift — confirm on the official site before booking travel.
